RE: RE: My Grandmother

Hello, my name is Fiona and I lived in Chalford for a short time (1958 to 1961) before moving to Cirencester. My grandparents lived in Vale House which was demolished in the 1960s to allow for the London Road to be widened. My grandmother was Elsie Browning. She married Bill Gunn. My Gran's brother and wife lived in Greystones, the house just next to the Roundhouse so we visited often. I was christened in the local church. My doctor was Dr Crouch and my best friend was Sarah Sollars whose parents ran the local shop just down from the primary school. I remember my Gran used to mention the names Frith and Smart. In fact I'm sure I remember a Mrs Smart. She wore white gloves and a spotted dress! I still keep in touch with my friend Sarah who still lives near Chalford but I am living in Scotland. I have very fond memories of Chalford and have one or two photographs of Chalford in the 1950s and a photograph of my gran's parents who had a Newsagents at Vale house. He was George Browning.
