Staff Chartham
My grandparents Charles Butcher and Nellie Florence Baldock worked at the Asylum and my Great Grandfather was a waggoner there. He resided with his family at Asylum Cottages. I would be pleased to have any information relating to this period at the hospital and in what capacity Charles and Nellie were employed. They married in about 1915. I am trying to trace the birth place and parents of Charles Butcher but keep drawing a blank. Can anyone help?

RE: RE: Staff Chartham
My grandparents were also (I think, as ancestry can be hit and miss sometimes) Nellie Florence Baldock and Charles Butcher. My father was Austin Charles Butcher and he was 25 when he died overseas in 1945. Nellie and Charles worked at the Asylum. Nellie was a nurse and Charles an attendant and they were married in 1912. I might have somemore information for you when I delve into my files. It is years aince I visited Kent, 40+ years. My Auntie Olive died in 1981 I think and I had not been down there for a while before she died and not since. I think on one of my visits I met a Sally who lived in Tunbridge Wells. Could that be you? I did have a photo of Sally but seem to have mislaid it. I had it for years and probably still have. Will have a good search. I have one of gran and grandad Butcher taken 1939. Anyway, I will look into my files and see what other info I can find as I did start a search. Best wishes. - Norma

I am also connected to the Baldock family and my gt gt grandfather William Winn died 2 March 1884 at Kent County Lunatic Asylum, Chartham. I would be interested to find out more about him and why he was there.
