Bootmakers Shop

Moulsham Street 1892
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

My great-grandfather was the bootmaker who worked from the shop in Moulsham Street in the late 1890s. His name was Leonard Orrin and he married Annie Caple in 1901. I believe the shop was owned by his father and mother, Thomas and Eliza. They lived at 123 Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.
He and Annie went on to have 11 children, one of whom was my grandmother.

RE: RE: Bootmakers Shop

Your great-grandfather Leonard Orrin shows in the 1891 census as born 1880, he lived at 123 Moulsham Street with his mother and father and family, they ran a bootmakers and lived upstairs. I remember the street was re-numbered so it is now number 162, this is a shop near the Star and Garter pub. If anyone else has shopkeeper relations that traded in Moulsham Street I would love to help locate their shop as I am working on the trading history of the street. David Meadows

RE: RE: RE: Bootmakers Shop

My mother worked for many years for Bellamy's wholesale chemist where I also had an after school job typing invoices. I remember the old counting house sign above the warehouse behind the shop which was demolished to make way for the new Parkway, a few doors down past a grocery store which I believe was the original Chelmsford hospital building. My mother will be 100 years old this year but still has many memories of Chelmsford.
