Photographed in the year it was built, this church had seating for 800 people, and a commodious schoolroom at the back. The latter was linked to the main building by a bridge across the Gullet - a small channel connecting the Rivers Chelmer and Can. The church was later replaced by the skyscraping Cater House.

This building I remember all too well. I had started working for a firm of demolition contractors, and they had the contract to pull it down.
