More about this scene

Chertsey was once the town at the gates of one of the most powerful abbeys in England. Chertsey Abbey was founded in 666 AD and has now almost completely vanished; much of its stonework was used at Henry VIII's Hampton Court after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The main east-west street of the town - Windsor Street this side of the Town Hall and London Street beyond - is indeed dominated by the 1851 Town Hall, which projects over the pavement; it is now a restaurant called Bar 163.
