I lived here

I lived at The Malt House, Claverdon in the early mid 1960s. It was owned at the time by Mr Jefferson who lived in a lovely new bungalow a little further away. I loved this house even if it was a bit unusual to live in. I went to school in Claverdon and Miss Lewthwaite was my teacher... [more]

I used to carol sing here

Warwickshire memories

Palmer family of Preston Bagot

My great-great-great grandfather was Joseph Palmer, blacksmith, and his daughter Jane Plamer married James Ferris Cooke in 1838. They lived most of thier lives in Tanworth in Arden. Does anyone out there have any information about the Plamer family please?  My email is anniebrown5@hotmail.co.uk

William Palmer

On the 3 May 2009 I have to admit I had never heard of Preston Bagot. Shame, some if not all may cry. I and my daughter are researching our family tree. We thought that our family originated in Wednesbury in the Black Country. That was proved wrong when we discovered that my great-great-grandfather William Palmer was born in Preston Bagot... [more]

The Bus

My family purchased and converted an old single decker bus for us to have holidays in. It was parked on a small piece of land opposite the church. An old Gypsy caravan was parked just inside the gate to the land, I was told that it had to be burned as it was so rotten and infested! I can remember as... [more]

Pram race

I was 10 years old when I entered the pram race. Myself and two other neighbours entered as a junior team. I was dressed up as a baby and the two other lads were dressed as mom and dad. The race went round Wooton Wawen. It started at the top of the High Street in Henley, down to the traffic lights... [more]

Getting Older

How times change, reading the memories of Ullenhall relating to Mockley Manor. My mother Mrs Cook was a resident at Mockley Manor which became a nursing home. She was there from 1997 until her death in 2008 at the age of 102. We often wondered what it used to be like when it was a private home.

Warwickshire Revisited Photographic Memories

Claverdon is a large village which saw considerable expansion in the 1970s and is mostly inhabited by commuters. It is believed that the medieval village was enclosed within a deer park in 1300, but the only clue to that nowadays is the name of Park Farm, near the church.

Warwickshire Revisited Photographic Memories

Dedicated to St Michael and All Angels, the church contains monuments to the Galton family of Edstone Hall. Sir Francis Galton FRS (1822-1911) was the man who discovered that each individual has unique fingerprints. There are also some early monuments to the Spencer family, ancestors of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Leamington Spa Town and City Memories

Mrs Hitchman, widow of Dr Hitchman, donated the site for this church together with a large sum of money. St Mary's was built between 1877 and 1878 by John Cundall in brick with a prominent steeple. The interior is brick-lined. The tower was a mere 75 feet high and has been cemented over. In 1875 the old three-decker pulpit was removed and the font re-located. The horse and carriage gives a tranquil... [more]
