Coatbridge Palais

Great times in Coatbridge Town Hall every Wednesday, we could dance to the Golden Crusaders and on a Saturday night to the Drumbeats.
Oh happy days.

RE: RE: Coatbridge Palais

Hi John, when did you attend Coatbrig Palais? I used to dance at Coatbrig and Airdrie Palais and knew a bloke called Devlin, this was round about 1957 to 1962. I also worked for Jock McKim and Archie Pettegrew Slaters and Plasters Coatbrig. In our day we from Airdrie used to call the town just the "Brig". We used have a coke and be able to dance in the main road at the Rainbow Cafe, I think that is what it was called. If you or anybody else remembers please put your comments on line, those were the days!

My mother used to go to the Palais. Her name was Jeannie Young, I can remember she had a boyfriend called Jess Owens who she met at the dancing but she got married to Johnny Mclean from the slap up.

RE: RE: Coatbridge Palais

Hamish Main, David Jeffery, Dick Tinto and I were four pals who used to haunt the Brig Palais and Airdrie Palais on alternate weeks in the early to mid 1950s. The Rainbow Cafe was owned and operated by the Russo family helped by Susan McCaffrey (who used to work at the Railway Cafe) near Coatbridge Fountain. I worked at Pettigrew Printers where I served my time as a compositor-typesetter. Later I moved to Canada, then home, then Rhodesia and now Hong Kong, where I run my own PR and writing company after helping to edit some of the world's top newspapers. I put a copy of my Gartsherrie Academy primary school picture on line at a site of the same name (Gartsherrie). Anyone who recognises themselves in the photo please feel free to contact me at ian@edit24.com Cheers, jbw

My mum and her sister used to go there; Jean Russell and her sister was Mary. Sadly mum has died. But loved her stories.
