Late 50's
A Memory of Collyhurst.
I was born in 1953, lived at 375 Collyhurst Road, next to the croft, and went to St Malachy's. We lived in Collyhurst Road until they decided to pull all the houses down and we moved to an estate in Miles Platting before emigrating to Australia in 1969.
My brothers Alan and John along with my sisters Christine and Ann all went to St Malachys. We used to play on the croft beside our house, where we would have bonfire night each year. I remember going out collecting the wood with the neighborhood kids and making sure someone watched over our 'stash'. Standing outside the Pub and asking for 'a penny for the guy'.
The back of our house looked out over the railway and across to Cheetham Hill Road and my dad had painted the bricks around our bedroom lime green which you could see from Cheetham Hill Road.
There was a corner shop on the opposite side of the road to where stairs ran down beside the croft
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers the area round about that time.

Whereabouts on Collyhurst Road did they live? Their names are not familiar but it might just be my memory failing me.
