Cook Family
As a child I visited my grandmother at Ivy Cottage where my mother was born 100 years ago. The Cook family and the Faircloths were the backbone of the village. Granny Cook lived in the house next door to Ivy Cottage for which my grandfather paid 21 guineas (or it may have been 20 guineas as I believe he lost one in the garden!) It was an exciting event when gran had a water pump fitted in the kitchen which was noisy after being primed. My mother, Kathleen Cook, is still with us and has an excellent memory of Crockleford and its little school.

RE: RE: Cook Family
My grandparents, also owned Ivy Cottage and I have wonderful memories of spending time there as a child. My grandparents were the Hardwick's - Fred and Sarah. What a wonderful place. The house is beyond picturesque, and the woods behind such an adventure to explore for us children. Many of the members of our family, have framed pictures of the cottage in our homes today. We - and the pictures - spread from Essex to Yorkshire, and from Australia to America. I recall the times when the water in the kitchen came from a hand pump, and the toilet was outdoors. I also remember the hot water bottles and the sheer joy of being there. Grandad, was a gardener by trade (and a bus driver and other occupations) and Ivy Cottage, in the hands of my grandparents was so beautiful. Such happy memories there. I think they owned it roughly between the years 1960 and 1970. When I can, I go by and have another look to rekindle the memories, and just enjoy the sheer beauty of the place.
