My Family

The Rectory c1950

I remember going to Croston when I was very young, just having a walk round the lovely village and visiting the church. It was only a couple of years ago when I started to compile my family tree that I found out my Nanna's family on my dad's side were from Croston. In the mid 19th century my ancestors the Daltons were the blacksmiths of the village, I have since been back to take pictures of where they all lived and found their graves in the churchyard. It was nice to go and put flowers on the graves of my ancestors, when I'm there I always wonder what it was like living in those times.

RE: RE: My Family

I too have recently started to compile my family tree. I have discovered that an Alice Dalton daughter of the Blacksmith in Croston married my great great grand father John Hale in around 1863. I too have many memories of Croston. My father played cricket for Croston and we visited my Grandmother (Margaret Hale nee Walmsley) down Westhead Road regularly. My best memories are of Coffee day. I remember being fascinated by all the little girls in their white dresses, and the decorated horse drawn coaches filled with children at the end of the procession.
In later years I married Andrew Blackburn whose family are also from Croston. His Grandma on his mothers side was Mary Holden.
We still regularly return to Croston to visit my husbands father. Although we haven't been on Coffee day since my children were very small.

RE: RE: My Family

It's nice to know someone else is doing their family tree which also includes some of my family, Alice Dalton was my great-great-grandfather's sister, he was a blacksmith with his father, unfortunately he died when he was only 49 years old and John Hale was on his death certificate as being there when he died of a respiratory disease.

RE: RE: My Family

I originate from Cock Robin Row, Croston; a Dalton of the same line as the ones stated previously. (There is a Dalton genealogy Website). I have a Photo (abt 1910)of the Dalton family of blacksmiths in front of the old smithy from Prof. W Hale of Aughton. I can trace back to 1500's. I supplied the horses and lorry for Coffee Day for 12 years, up to 2,001

RE: RE: My Family

i would love to find out more about my Dalton family and if there are any other pictures, I have gone back to the 1700s but unfortunately the Croston Parish Records have got some years missing so I can't get back any further.
