Days Gone by
I was born in 5 Nene Terrace on 2-4-47. I remember the Pattersons, the Brakes, and a little shop where I could get 2oz of sweets. Does any one remember my family? My mum was Marjorie, my sister Shirley and I had two brothers, Tom and Roly.
Martin Family.
My mother Margery Irene Martin was born in Crowland, she had 3 brothers Reggie, Clarry and Ron. She married my father Wilfred Houghton Blackwell at the Abbey Church in 1936. My last contact was a letter from my Aunt Rene(Clarry's wife) when she was living at 19 Woad Court, The Crescent, Eye. I would love to make contact with any relatives I have in the area. Annette Hood

I lived in Crowland as a young child and my parents ran the Durham Ox, Nene Terrace, as land ord and landlady. Would anyone who knew my parents and has any pictures of the pub or my parents be so very kind as to let me take copies or forward them to my email? Someone out there must have some history of them, of course I will pay if needed.

Abbey Hotel
I think that is the name of the pub/hotel on the right hand side not far from the entrance gate to the Abbey. I used to stay there as a child with my mum & dad. My dad met the licencee Harry (Allman?) in the second world war. It was a long journey to Crowland from East London pre-1960. I have fond memories of the late parties we had and how when they had had enough of us kids they would tell us about a ghost called Henry who only came out when children where still up!!! His wife was a lovely cook and they used to cater for weddings too. There was a large polished table in the hallway that had marks, I was told was blood, on the top. The story was told of two priests from the Abbey haveing a argument and one stabbed the other with his dinner knife.
Memories of Cambridgeshire
Judge Family
My maternal Grandmother was Susannah Judge. She was of a fairly large family, I remember sister's names Mary, Ada and Rebecca. Mary, I think, went to live in london, Ada married Jim Gubby & lived in Barnwell Northants and Auntie Bec moved to Heywood in Gtr Manchester as did my Grandma. I remember Grandma telling me that after morning service the Vicar would dine for lunch with the judge & jury!!
The Hunt Family Cowbit
I have a silver brooch presented to "Bro" AQ. Hunt, Cowbit Branch by the National Union of Agricultural Workers, probably 1930s or earlier. I acquired it from a market stall in Bury St Edmunds many years ago and I would love Mr A. Hunt's relatives to have it. My email is daveb3391@msn.com David Blackford Isle of Wight
My Ancestors
My ancestors go back in a strong line to Eaugate: first ref. is to Thomas BRADFORD in 1811 (born) m. Anne Draper from GEDNEY. One son JOHN was my grandmother's father, she was Mary-Ann, b 1878, a preacher's daughter, but 'low' church? Later, her nephew, Joseph Bradford, preached at the 'PLOUGH INN' in ?.. St John's in the 1950s. I'm fascinated by the fact that the Pilgrim Fathers who left Lincolnshire to found Plymouth colony in the U.S.A were part of a strong prayer group in the area, the Colony Governor was a Mr Bradford. I visited Moulton for the first time in September 2009 and want to be back! Polly (my gran) married Jos Sanderson, Crowland then Nottingham & Eye, Cambs. Any help available? (I live in France). Thank you.
The Waterton Arms
The Waterton Arms, in Church Street, used to be owned and run by Mary Elizabeth Mulligan. Her grandson Andrew Robert owned the house next door and the Pharmacy attached.
Biltons
Dear Deeping St James, I am not a native of Deeping but my grandfather was born there in 1876. His family name was Bilton. His father was James and the family lived at Deeping Gate in or near the village. I was wondering if there are any Biltons still in the village. My husband and I are planning to visit the village very early in the New Year. He is also descended from the Bilton family. Regards, Glynis Jones
