Brother of Christine Brown/ Brooks, See Previous Memory.
I was born in Mayday Hospital in 1938 and was brought up in Clarendon Road, West Croydon. I went to the Croydon Parish Church, Waddon Secondary Modern and Stanley Technical Schools. I would walk over Pitlake Bridge taking my sister Christine and myself to the Parish Church school and like her, I remember well how it all used to be before it became the current Jubillee Bridge. I used to know John Phillips, Fuzzy May, Audrey Latta, Maurice Eastman, Alan Eastmond, Tony Greenhead, Len Harvey, Brian Wilson/Wiltshire and many others of my era and would like to hear from them or any others that might read this and remember me. I have lived in Sydney for 36 years now, but tend to come home to Croydon every year as Christine still lives there. I also miss England greatly and despite doing well over here, I should probably never have emigrated so far away from what I know and remember. RE: RE: Brother of Christine Brown/ Brooks, See Previous Memory.
I was born in 1935 and also went to Stanley. Class 47C. In those days the school was much as it was built in 1905 (?). A few years ago I thought about returning to visit but then discovered many additions had been made to the buildings and I believe the classic cast iron staircase from the machine shop to the main level removed. Recently the school changed names and Stanley is no more
Moved from the UK in 1967. Have returned to Croydon briefly a couple of times since then but no longer have relatives or friends in the area so likely will not be there again. Now living in Central Oregon and among a lot of trees. Just about as different as it could be from the English burbs!
