I was a Girl Guide here from 1969 to 1975. We used to meet every Friday. Guide captain was Mrs Pamela Ferries. I enjoyed many camping trips to Kent/Sussex (travelling in the back of a removal lorry), what fun!

RE: RE: Guides

I am the second of four children, we grew up in and around Old Town during the 1960's and early 1970's. My dad worked for the Water Board and we lived in a cottage in Waterworks Yard in Church Road. I went to the old Parish Church Infant's School and then on to the 'new' school in Warrington Road. I remember going to Brownies and Sunday School in the Church Hall and singing in the choir at church. Choir practice was held in the hall too, I think it was on Fridays. The thing is that I also remember going to Brownies and Bible Club at the Salvation Army! Also Holiday Bible Club there and another at an old tin roofed hall somewhere else very near! I think it may have been called Cranmer Hall? We were not particularly religious and I don't remember my parents attending any of these activities to either take or collect me...I think that they may all have been form of free daycare and/or childminding! This picture brings back memories of a very happy (if rather parent free) childhood for me and my siblings!
