My Grandfather
My grandfather and his parents and siblings were all born and lived in or near Cullercoats. Their surname was Storey and my grandfather George emigrated to Australia with his wife and children in 1949. I have always wanted to visit the birthplace of George and try to find more about him. His dad John was a fisherman and he died in 1974 in North Shields. The main thing I remember about George was his strong accent. He was a quiet man who liked his solitude and unfortunately died of lung disease when I was 19, 30 years ago. I'm glad to hear Cullercoats hasn't changed much and my aim is to visit as soon as possible.

Hi Diane, I used to live in a village not far from Cullercoats, about five miles away. I now live down the south of England. I still like going back to the north occasionally, my family and I were all born up there. I was born in 1952, and the last time I went up to Cullercoates was last year, and it hasn't changed a bit from when I lived up there. I remember my mother, father, and I used to often walk from Cullercoates to Whitley Bay, all along the sea front. Cullercoates was a tiny fishing village, and although not a fishing village now it is still a very small place. I'm sure if you were to visit Cullercoates you would be able to find something out about your family, as it is a very very small place, I wish you luck in your search.
PS. There is a lovely little cafe there called The Copper Kettle. Maybe you could ask someone in there.
