Dingle

Or what about camping up the Dingle next to the cave that would take you all the way through to Abercarn? Yeah, of course it did.
Orrrrrrrrrrr: Snooker Hall, Stagsies (Styles shops), Carol's shop, Roma's, The shop in Penllwyn Street (can't remember the name but it was Jinxy's nan's), Peter's Pies on NMP. Where they used to have an 'open day' where they would hand out pies, pasties, sausage rolls. Obesity was just another posh word back then. Symonds shop, Beryls, Enids, Ian the Policeman, Home made go-karts down the Factory Hill. Blimey, how dodgy?! but how much fun? Kick the brick on the corner. Bonfires and raiding. Health and Safety may as well have been twins for all we cared. Hand painted rugby posts and wickets in the old park. Still there to this day! Rennaisance if ever there was. Climbing the old park wall only to get stuck and either drop 10 feet that would sting the ankles or worse still get your dad with a... Read more

Swimming in The Deepool

I remember aged about therteen and swimming in the Deepool, smoking cigs and just having the crack, I bet the kids of today don't do nothing like this no more. We used to make our summer holidays just the way they should have been, right! Chill out days, flipping great.

Julie, I Remember You

Sorry for pushing you in the nettles lol.

Being Young, Growing up in Cwm

I remember playing up the zig zag, Gafa, Morris, Flapper, Adrian, all the kids on the corner. Those were the good old days, where did they go  - sad, so sad.

The Good Old Days!!!!

John's Cafe - 10p for a single ciggy and space invader games, the snooker hall, old man's park. - Julie Tovey - Cutlers  used to live in Syndicate Terrace.

Gwent memories

Ynysddu Crusaders

My grandfather Robert John Roberts, born 1895, joined The Ynysddu Crusaders. When I came to visit from Portsmouth, he took me to watch them play. My father Donald Keith Roberts played football, bowls and cricket.
He would be very proud today to know my grandson Andrew Bellinger often gets Man of the Match in football and is an avid sports fan. I have a print of The Team 1923-1924 Winners of The League Challenge Cup and Shield.

When I Was 10 Years Old

This is my memory of living in Ynysddu. We used to live at no 1 Station Avenue, I had 6 brothers and two sisters. We used to go up the mountain with a packed lunch of bread and jam sandwishes and play cowboys and indians in the long ferns with the Davies kids, and then we would go to the boys' pond for a swim. It was just great, but the best memory of Ynysddu was when I met my husband Brin Bush, I only knew him for three months before we were married in January 1963 and our daughter was born Janurary 15th 1964, her name is Karen. He was the love of my life, but now he's passed away after we were togather for 44 years. Now I live in Poole in Dorset but my brothters and one sister still live in Ynysddu. My maiden name was Christine Morris.
