Dacre Banks

My Grandfather, D J R Wilson had lived in Dacre Banks since just after the end of the war meaning that as a child would often have to visit. As a teenager I never appreciated just how beautiful the place is, or how lucky I was to have somewhere like this to visit.
Sadly I would imagine that I will only ever visit Dacre once more and then I'll never pass through again. I hope the scenery and the people stay the same and that it remains as ageless and as charming as I will always remember it.

RE: RE: Dacre Banks

Dear Mr Clayton, I visited Kettlsing last night for a meal in the pub there, I have always loved this area and I am proud of being brought up in Yorkshire. I was saddened to read your posting of your thoughts on only thinking you will only visiting Dacre just the one more time, well I live in Leeds and I would love to take you in my VW camper van with great big windows so you can see your beloved Yorkshire, this would be of no cost to you at all, I know how I feel about this beauty, and I share with you this feeling, so it would be my pleasure to share this oppertunity with you. I have a Japanese friend (retired teacher) that I chanced to meet on the Isle of Skye, I invited him to stay with my family and he simply loves our country, so I take him to show our lovely island, Yours sincerely, Malcolm Dale

Chris, I used to live next to a Don Wilson, is that the same person? I still live there now as my mum and dad gave us their house. Not a lot has changed around here apart from a few barn conversions. Mike Thompson

RE: RE: Dacre Banks

Hi. If it was on Grange Lane, or even Springfield Villas, then yes, that was Don (my grandad). When I posted that message a few years ago, I was alluding to the fact that the next (and possibly last) time I would visit, would be for his funeral. However, we are continuing the annual barbecue tradition, albeit in Knaresborough this summer and myself and my family, along with my brother and cousin, are staying in Dacre again, at Gate Eel. Can hardly wait to explore the place again and have a few pints in the Royal Oak. I hope it has stayed as I remember it. Best wishes to you both, Chris.
