Childhood Memories Valence Swimming Pool
Recently visited Valance Park with my sister Sheila who is visiting from Australia. I live in Bedford, we used to live at 3 Coote Gardens. Memories of the sandpit, paddling pool, bandstand, the parky, football and Valence Park Swimming Pool - cold water temperatures, hot Oxo and a slice of bread and butter for a halfpenny. Shared with great mates, cousins Brian and Pat Kearney, Johnnie Cates, Brian Casey, Eddie Watson. Great community spirit in those days, from 1940 to 1956.

RE: RE: Childhood Memories, Valence Swimming Pool
I am now living in Texas, but my mother still lives in Margery Road that leads to the gates to Valence Park. We used to buy a monthly season ticket so we could go to the pool every day of the summer. They used to display the water temperature at the entrance, often unbelievable cold! But when you are 10 years old, who cares.
I cannot remember when the pool closed. Can anyone remember?
Also, what about the 5 a side soccer leagues under the "playleader" scheme?

From Ann Cook - Hi Terry, I got a message on Facebook from someone who gave this to me from Friends Reunited. I was looking for your sister as I used to go to school with her. I live in Perth, West Australia, and I wanted to tell your sister that we had a reunion this year in June of 4g class. Where does your sheila live in Australia? It was great as about 30 turned up. If she goes on Friends Reunited and logs in to Bishop Ward she can see a recent photo that someone took. Let her know that I was looking for her on Friends Reunited. My married name is now Marchese. Must run. Hope to hear from you.

Hi Terry. I remember your sister Sheila, she took me Sunday School at St Mary's church. I must have been about 4 or 5 years old. My surname used to be Whitnell. I lived at no 21 Nicholas Road. I had ginger hair. I now live in Wales. Thanks for the great memories. I too remember the Oxo drinks at the pool. I didn't enjoy going in the water with the school swimming lesson, it was cold. I used to be friends with Carol Fordham, Janet Raie and Janet White. Thanks, Jenny.
