Dagenham Civic Centre at Bull Lane

This is the view from the other side of Central Park, the main road ran alongside and Heath Park estate where we lived was opposite. I remember my dad and me waiting for a 103 bus to take us to Romford Market and me wondering why he had to ask me the number on the front of the bus. My dad picked up the keys from the Civic Centre for our brand new house on the Heath Park estate and we lived next door to the Hurleys and Jean and Richard on the other side. They were semi-professional ballroom dancers and fostered many children. A short distance from the 'civic' was the fire station and Beacontree Heath School where I was a pupil. Does anyone remember the school, and that teacher Mr Richards who was very handy with the cane? There were some prefabs close by and my mum was a barmaid in the local Ship and Anchor pub. Happy days.

RE: RE: Dagenham Civic Centre at Bull Lane

I lived in Dagenham from 1959 to 1973 in Bull Lane which ran off Whalebone Lane South opposite the entrance to Central Park, I remember being sent to the Civic Centre by my mum to pay the rates and being very impressed by the red carpets and general grandeur of the place! I also went to Becontree Heath Junior and Infants School, the headmaster at that time was Mr Sidebotham. I have been trying recently, to no avail so far, to find out something about the junior school, although I know it was demolished to build the new council estate. I remember the pre-fabs mentioned as they were on the corner of Frizlands and Wood Lane next to the infants school, and does anyone remember the big house next to the junior school where the care-taker lived? I was friends with his daughter. I have loads of very happy memories of growing up in Dagenham, and have enjoyed reading all the posts on this site.
