The Forest

I can remember the first time I visited the forest, it was very impressive.
The smell of the trees, birds everywhere, and the sense of a wonderful peace. A really beautiful place, I hope it has not changed.

Cheshire Living Memories

Delamere, originally called 'foresta de la mare', is a very scattered community with no real village centre. There was once a healing well somewhere in the forest which, legend has it, was blocked up during an invasion by Vikings. Then in 1600 a new well appeared which had miraculous properties, healing people who were blind, deaf or lame. Was it the same well? We will probably never know.

Cheshire Living Memories

Still a village school, this is the Delamere Church of England Primary School, with a little nursery in the building just beyond. The school was built in 1846, and is very large and ornate for a village school of the period.
