Middlesex memories
Being Pushed by an Elephant
One of my earliest memories was from in a push chair. The zoo was parading through the street, I don't know which street though, and this elephant steps up onto the pavement and forces my mother back into the hedge. I have a surreal memory of that huge leg being very close to me.
Living in Northolt
I no longer live in Northolt. I was born in Newbury Close in which I had a happy time, there was always somthing to do on the estate. I then moved to Academy Gardens, which weren't so happy. I remember being at Islip Manor infants'; school and my welfare lady being Mrs Porter.
Happy Days In Northolt
I grew up in Northolt. Dad was a school caretaker at Woodend School, Witton Avenue in the 1960s. The secondary school is no longer there as it's been demolished but the junior and infants still remains. The big field at the back of the school just used to be fields but now there is a housing estate. Oh how times change. I would love to hear from any one who knows anything about it.
Northolt Airport Play Area
Does anyone remember playing at Northolt airport in the 1950s? I seem to remember they had a huge play area and it was very busy on Sunday afternoons.
Northolt/Wood End
Our family moved to Northolt (Mildred Avenue) around 1956 from Harlesden and I left in 1978. I have great memories of Wood End infants/junior school. Playing near Northolt Park Station and anoying the station master who we lovingly called 'Beetroot'. Cricket/Football on the racecourse with my brother and friends. 2nd Northolt Cubs was fun, as was a walk up the parade to do some shopping. I still have a fishing rod from Macs near South Harrow and remember the hustle and bustle of the market in the arches (is it still there?). Great days.
The White Hart, Yeading
There was a murder of a barmaid from The White Hart at Yeading, I think it was in the late 1960s or early 1970s. Does anybody know the year and if the murderer was ever found?
Northolt Memories
Hi, I used to live in Newbury Way. I liked going over the park playing football. I would like to hear from anyone who used to lived there, plus who went to Vincent Secondary Modern School.
