Green Hedges Ditchling

I wonder if anybody remembers Green Hedges. I believe it was a maternity home in 1941 as I was born there. I recently went to back to Ditchling and it is now an old people's home. My mother went to Ditchling during 1940/41 to escape the war in London. My grandmother was a leading light in the Red Cross Movement and her name was Mrs. Winder, she was a doctor's widow. My aunt also lived there and her name was Dorothy Trent. I would love to hear from anybody who remembers these people or in fact Green Hedges. Thanks.

RE: RE: Green Hedges, Ditchling

My brother and I were both born at 'Green Hedges' in 1945 and 1943 respectively. Then we returned to our native Battersea in London. I now live in Sussex, East Grinstead and have travelled to Ditchling and Westmeston village on a number of occassions trying to find 'Green Hedges'. Can anybody assist and advise me where the house is located please?

RE: RE: Green Hedges Ditchling

Green Hedges is now called Downsview and is on the B. 2116 road in Westmeston. It is a private house and has been for many years. It was called Louisiana and then Bellfry (named by Mr bell who was a fish and chip shop owner). It was built for the farm manager of Mrs Ralli who lived at Middleton Manor just to the north of Green Hedges. It still has a thick green hedge along the front.
