A Holiday of Note
I can't pinpoint the year exactly, but it was definitely a year or two before 1953 which was the year I left the UK. I and three friends, student nurses at a hospital in Essex, decided on a holiday in Scotland. We chose Dollarbeg as our base hotel and toured round the whole area, walking in the surrounding countryside and taking bus tours from Stirling - the Dukes Pass tour perhaps being the most memorable, the scenery magnificent and equal to any the world over. We travelled by train from London to Edinburgh and then on to Dollar. The picture even brings back memories of that train trip when to our horror one girl developed a major allergy - her face swelling up like a balloon and sending us all into a bit of a panic as we didn't know until this happened that she suffered from Angioneurotic Oedema as well as Asthma. Luckily we did have antihistamine tablets, and Asthma sprays with us so the necessity to pull the... Read more

Eastersheardale
I live in Eastersheardale Cottages and I have done for a year now. I was wondering if anyone has any photos or memories of the cottages, who stayed in them, and were there any more houses around the area. I would be most grateful for information. Caroline Savoy
Miners
seems likea "million" years ago, but I was ( 6 yrs ) old and remember at holiday fridays, standing with a few other kids outside the pit-baths at the devon pit, asking miners if we could take their bags "pit clothes" home for them, and get a tip...
thrupenny bit, was a lot back then.
When we Were Kids
When we were kids in Fishcross we used to go fishing most weekends, play in the woods, go to the Dam, climb and fish the Ochill Hills, Tooks Pond for eggs, go to the pictures etc. I knocked about with Charlie and John Bradley, Big Jack Bolton, Breck's Bolton, John and Sammy Mcmillan, Jerry Fitzpatrick etc. The people I remember for a laugh were William Joseph Hunter (Cocky Joe) who used to put the coal in the houses for something to eat. And Willie (the Gut ) who rode around Alloa on his bike doing wheelies.
We had some great times - memories never to be forgotten.
The very best to all who read this.
William Speirs.
Bicycle Accidents Near Fishcross
Has there ever been any serious Bicycle accidents near Collyland Road? I overtook a cyclist as I was approaching Fishcross from Tullibody as I passed the Cyclist I looked over my shoulder too see if it was safe for me to pull in but there was no Cyclist there? I was thinking I've seen a ghost of a cyclist? Anyone help?
Fishcross
I left Fishcross in September 1962. I was part of the MacKay clan way back when everyone knew everyone. I had a friend across from where I lived at 2 Alloa Road, her name was Catherine Logan. My brother Ken (Kye) had a pal Michael Finnan who now lives in our old house. My sister Moira and Ken have seen Cokey Joe at his old farmhouse in his bath singing, outside, with his boots still on legs hanging over the edge. He used to help with the coal delivery in exchange for a bowl of tea and a piece and jam. I remember getting crisps handed over the wall at play time in the playground of Fishcross school. There's a lot I do remember. My grandparents Maggie and Kenny McKay lived at 21 Lawswell,. My son is currently in Scotland and will be visiting my village on the 11th then heading to Sauchie to visit my family. I'm so proud Adam has gone to check his roots, his grandparents Donald...
