Gwynedd memories
1966
Stayed here with my parents in August 1966 when it was a Christian Guest House.
If there had been a fire it would have been a death trap!!
The Caravan Park Owned by Mr Pughe
In 1972 when my parents had a caravan on Mr Pughes site we had a Sprite Muskateer owned first by my grandad, Lesley Fellows and his wife Louise. I have very fond memories of the caravan site, and can still remember all the old caravans there.
Dinas Mawwdwy & Llanymawddwy Valley
My Grandparents went to this beautiful valley in the 1940's. Then for the rest of their lives. We are now a 3rd generation of friends with a family from the area.
This place in Wales is very dear to my heart I have been going there all my life it is a place I feel safe. My Grandparents took my mother, my mum took me & now I take my own kids, I love the area. It's like a comfy pair of slippers & I wish I could go there more often.
Llanuwchllyn
Mums family are from the village, I have wonderful memories of staying with my grandmother at Aran Lane, which is at the bottom of the street on the right. On hearing a train, I used to rush out into the main road to see the train going over the railway bridge. My great uncle Tex had the butchers shop in the village, but spent most of his time in my grandmothers house drinking cups of tea. There was also my great uncle John, who used to ride about on a bike that had a creaky chain. He refused to oil it as he felt people knew he was coming, when they heard his bike!
Carnival
Every year the Carnival passed through the Square, I remember being on the float with the Trawsfynydd Queen 1971/72? I have a photo of my Mum, on a float in the Square, when she was little (that would be 1951/52?) and a photo of my younger brothers and cousin walking behind the floats all in fancy dress. The Square in Trawsfynydd is also where I used to stand each morning to catch the bus to school in Blaenau Ffestiniog. I only lived in Trawsfynydd for three years but the memories are many.
The Camp
This photo is fairly unique since it shows the Camp at Bryngolau, Trawsfynydd, where the Royal Artillery Summer Camp was located for 2 years from 1903 before establishing a more permanent camp 2 miles south at Bronaber in 1905, where it remained until about 1958.
Military Camp Trawsfynydd 1945
I was in the Irish Guards and in 1945 we came to Trawfynydd by train for field training. The camp consisting of 2 or 3 huts was situated at Trawsfnydd on the left just off the main road to Bleanau. During one exercise on the stream high up the hill, a rifle was dropped into one of the deep pools on the stream. Our efforts to recover it were unsuccessful so it must be there still. I met and fell in love with Nancy Jones of Jones Street, but in end the distance from London was too much even for love. However I still have fond memories of cuddles in the cinema, and saying goodnight by the old narrow gauge railway station watched over by the sheep, who then had freedom to roam. So a belated thank you to the people in Bleanau who were always very friendly and helpful. Stan Peplow
