Stuart Family

My great-grandparents were William Gordon Stuart and Sarah Anne (Miller) Stuart. They moved to Tininver House, Dufftown in 1887. William was in the British military for over 37 years and had just retired. He was stationed in Ireland where my grandfather, Charles Gordon Stuart, was born in 1880. This William was born in Glenlivet area in 1835 and had a twin sister Jane. Jane married David Scott of Hillock of Echt, Cabrach. William's and Jane's parents were William Stuart and Elspet Kellas, who at one time ran the Grouse Inn, Cabrach in about 1850's to 1870's. My grandfather, Charles Gordon Stuart came to the USA in about 1907, after living in Alberta, Canada. He helped rebuild San Francisco, Calif., just after the big 1906 earthquake. It was a pleasure to visit my ancestors homes in Dufftown, Cabrach, and the Glenlivet area. I would like to hear from anyone who may be related and look forward to your reply. I am in the USA. The Grants

The Grant family were prominent in Dufftown, residing in Amulree Conval Street. Peter Grant appears to be the name that continued until my great grandfather, who was a master baker until he died.

The Grants

Grant's have a family grave in the local cemetery.

Grandparents/Great Grandparents Grave Revisited.

I recently made a trip to visit my ancestor's grave in the cemetery at Mortlach Parish Church. The tomb stone records the deaths of my Great Grandmother Margaret Stuart who died in 1897 aged 50 years and my Great Grandfather James Alexander Beaton who died in 1909 aged 72 years. Also their daughter Jessie Ann Beaton who died 15th January 1917 (interred in Allanvale Cemetery Aberdeen). Finally my Grandmother Elsie Mary Allen who died on September 1st 1964 aged 76 and my Grandfather Gordon Beaton who died on the 18th March 1969 in his 90th year.
Does anyone have any further memories of the Beaton family in Dufftown who may be related?
