A Memory of Ealing.

I was born in a private nursing home near Walpole Park in 1939. It was at the junction of Somerset Road and Culmingdon Road. I lived in Culmington Road until I married in 1961 when I moved to Hillingdon. I went to Harvington School at Ealing Broadway from 1950 until 1956. I walked through Walpole Park every day to school, our house backed onto the park and I used to jump the back fence to save walking round the road to the park gates.

I was born in that private nursing home, St John's Nursing home in May 1940. I went to The Grange school in South Ealing the Ealing Grammar for boys from 1951 - 1956 and used to play in Walpole Park.
Hello. I was born in the nursing home which was next to Walpole Park, (now suitably a care home for the elderly, open the doors please), in 1946. My mum had been a sergeant in the ATS and was able to take advantage of the ex-services bounty. (How I wish I could paraphrase Bruce Springsteen and be 'Born in the NHS'). I loved Walpole Park, we lived in Drayton Green Road, my grandparents in Mattock Lane, I went to Northfields/Fielding/Drayton Manor and we too moved to Hillingdon in 1960 when I was 14. I hated being so far out, and decamped ASAP in 1965 to brighter lights.
My sister was born in a nursing home at 1 Somerset Road, Ealing (birth certificate). Hilary Sykes says that this is at the junction of Somerset Road and Culmingdon Road but these roads do not seem to meet. Can anyone explain the exact location of 1 Somerset Road? Many thanks. Robert
