Family
My grandmother and her children lived in East Grinstead on Glen Vue. It was just a dirt road which came to a dead end. I do not remember my grandfather as he died when I was very young. I can remember spending Christmases with my grandmother. East Grinstead was hit by a bomb in the war. There was a direct hit on a cinema and the death toll was over 80. Later in the war a doodle bug hit the town in almost the same spot.I can remember the barrage baloons in the war. The EG railway station was unique as it had two levels. I can recall going to the Noddy to use the swings. These we chained up on Sundays so they could not be used. I now live in Canada but on visits back I always went to EG. to see my aunts and uncles. Sadly they have all passed away. I can recall the Co-Op with its blue roof. When you paid the server put the money into a cylinder which went by wire to a central cashier. I was fasinated by this. Yes I have fond memories of East Grinstead.

RE: RE: Family
I was on a visit to England and went to East Grinstead and met four cousins who I had not seen for many years. We talked for several hours over old times. They all live in EG. I also toured the town. While it has not changed much very few of the shops are the same. Went to the Church where I was christened. I also went for a ride on the Bluebell steam train. It is hoped that by next spring they can extend the line into East Grinstead. I can vaguely recall travelling on this line from Three Bridges to East Grinstead.

RE: RE: Family
I lived in Crawley Down from 1953 to 1964 in Grange Crescent, which was then a new estate. I went to Aston House School in East Grinstead unitil 1960, then to St Agnes and St Michaels Convent School for girls (St. Margarets) Moat Road, and finally to EG County Grammar when our family moved to Brighton. I travelled on the steam train each day to and from school. The train ran (from memory!) Three Bridges, Rowfant, Crawley Down and East Grinstead and back on the same line. I did visit in 2000 and found East Grinstead to be very similar to my memories. I now live in Australia but have been so excited to find this website. The cinema was a great source of entertainment on Saturdays and I remember seeing Disney's Bambi there and the James Bond Dr. No release! I would love to hear from anyone who may remember those times!
