Barking Road, c.1965

A Memory of East Ham.

The photograph on Barking Road c1965 brought back some childhood memories. I was born in Dukes Court in 1955. I can remember the shops in the photo, the Fish & Chip shop, Johns the Greengrocer's, Walkers, Aflecks, the Dry Cleaners on the corner. Before the Fish & Chip shop was Pat & Ken's (Eagle sewing machines), Burlin's, the oil shop & Woods the Bakers. We used to queue outside Woods for the hot bread & bags of broken biscuits.
Where have all those happy years gone & what has happened to East Ham?

Hello Valerie, nice photo of Barking Road.I went to school with a couple of residents from Dukes court.Ian Price, and Irene Young.we went to Napier school, mrs Walgard was our headmistress.does this ring any bells? I use to live in Park Avenue.kind regards,Richard Atwill.

I have just found this wonderful picture of the Barking Road which brings back memories. We moved onto the Barking Road in about 1971/72 for a couple of years and my parents run a grocery store by the name of Wavy Line. I remember Afflecks in the picture vividly as I used to go there for my sweet fix. Thanks for sharing this picture
Val,
We lived above you in 31.
Spent my childhood playing football across the road in Barking Rec.
