Forge Cottage (Blacksmith's Cottage)

The Church c1960
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

My family and I lived in Forge Cottage (known to us as the Blacksmith's Cottage) from about 1962 to 1964, whereafter we emigrated to Canada. I have fond memories of the cottage and its low ceilings, the Aga in the kitchen, the huge garden which bordered a school (St Michael's?), and of course the church up the road where we went once a week. I remember playing in the garden and finding pieces of blue/white china hidden in the dirt, the apple tree that came down in a storm, the winter we had enough snow to build an igloo. At that time there were fields behind the house (all built on now). If anyone has any photos or other memories of the house and area I would be interested to hear from you.

RE: RE: White Cottage (Blacksmith's Cottage)

I also used to live in Blacksmith's Cottage, and went to St Michael's School.

RE: RE: White Cottage (Blacksmith''s Cottage)

I also lived in Blacksmith's Cottage, with my parents from 1964 until I married in 1968. My parent stayed in the cottage until around 1970. St Michael's school backed directly onto the garden. The local doctor had his surgery in the house next door where a Mrs Thake lived. I married in St Michael's church around the corner.
I worked as a cashier in the local butcher's shop (AAFisher's) across from Point Royal. The picture is not Blacksmith's, that one was a bit further around the corner. Although a bit poor,I do have a picture.

RE: RE: Forge Cottage (Blacksmith's Cottage)

I regularly visit Bracknell and that cottage is still there! A small white timber framed building. St Michael's school is still behind it - a square red brick detached building. Next door is are two semi-detached red brick houses. They look Victorian. Further up from the school is a large manor-esque building, then the cottage in the photo above, then the church. Are these the same buildings you remember? Unfortunately today they are surrounded by a sea of identical semi detached houses that are the norm in Bracknell. If you would like I could take a few photos of these places for you?
