More about this scene

The ponies are grazing on Waun y Pound Common; Ebbw Vale College is behind them and Newtown is in the background. Horses were once the backbone of coal mining in South Wales, but today they are no longer used in industry. The hills too have changed, as slag tips have been removed and are now green slopes.
