New Barton Bridge c1965

I remember being taken to Peel Green one Sunday, and witnessed the opening of the new bridge over the canal. On that day, the bridge was closed to all motor traffic, and thousands of people walked across it, quite a unique experience. Try doing it today! There was a carnival atmosphere about the whole day.

RE: RE: M62 Motorway Bridge

I too walked over the bridge with my mother and father, it was a great day but sadly we have to remember that if I remember rightly a man was killed building this bridge, he somehow fell off the high level part. But well done to the builders.

I was sailing in a ship called the 'Tasso' up the Manchester Ship Canal when the last section was put in place, we were not very pleased, after six week sat sea it delayed us getting home.
