THE BRAMWELL FAMILY
I have just dicovered I have a family name of Bramwell, Dora Brawell was my grandmother who married Francis Joyce from Buxton in the 1920s. Are there any Bramwells still in Moneyash? It was a large family of 8 back in the 1920s. It would be great to hear from you.

Where it All Began!
My great grandfather John Plant (known as Jack) was the grave digger at Mappleton church, St Mary. He married Francoise Chevenia, a coloured lady bought over from Mauritius to work as a maid at the Manor House in Mappleton. They lived at Rose Cottage for about 13 years. Their son, John Frederick (Freddie), was born after the war in 1920. Although Francoise met an early death in 1928 John and Freddie remained at Rose Cottage. Freddie even brought his Yorkshire-born wife to live here. They lived there for several years but were forced to move because the house was to small for their growing family. My mother Patricia was born at Rose Cottage like her father before her, and still to this day feels a sadness at having to leave. One of her earliest memories is of her and her grandfather walking to the Post Office to collect his pension and get some sweets, her weekly treat.

Walks to Mappleton
My family moved to Ashbourne in 1942 when I was 6. My father was the engineer at the Nestle factory in the town and we lived in a big company house on the rising ground to the North of the town. There were two houses - mock Tudor - they are still there though more houses have been built on what were extensive gardens. There were two girls in the other house a little older than me and we went to the same school. We had Wednesday afternoons off school and our passion and delight was country walks. We used to walk regularly to Mappleton, collecting wild flowers along the way and spotting rabbits. I particularly remember the woodlands on the right hand side of the road and the violets in spring and the wood anenomes. I used to think it was a long way to Mappleton - my legs would get tired. Village Carnival Queen
Hello, I have many happy memories of Quarnford, born and bred there till my marrage in 1973. Born at New Lodge, Quarnford. Although we got a lot of low cloud and bad weather, I enjoyed my life living there, as a child I loved walking down to Three Shire's Head. Picking bilberries was another highlight. Also haymaking time.
Visiting Youlgrave
My husband and I visited Youlgrave earlier this year as i am researching my family history and my 3 x g. grandma and grandad were married in this church. Her name was Martha Staley and his name was Joseph Goodall and they married in 1846. It is a beautiful church and village, and we hope to visit again. As we walked into the church there was an old lady doing some cleaning there, and we told her of our quest. She was most helpful as she had lived there all of her life, and she told us of a Francis Staley who had left some land to the church when he died. Also the graveyard was full of Staleys, probably all related. The old lady lived just accross from the church, and invited us into her home for a cup of coffee! Beautiful Memories
Dear people of Youlgreave,
In the summer of 1970 we visited Youlgreave. We were there on a holiday and we had a magnificent time up there. We stayed at the house of grandma and dad from my friend Chris Sol, who was born in Youlgreave. His sister Cathrin and her friend were also there.
The name of the grandparents was Oldfield. I am still living in Holland, I am married and we have three children. We live in a place called Hoofddorp, that's about 15 miles from Amsterdam.
It was my first holiday and I will never forget it. Within a few years we will visit Youlgreave again, but then as a granddad and ma. We have three grandchildren
Hope to see you in 2007 or 2008.
P.S. There was a girl in 1970, which I met. Her name was Patricia Smith. How is she doing at the moment. I hope she is still alive.
