Dancing at Eltham Baths in The Winter
I often used to go dancing at Eltham Swimming Baths in the winter with my boyfriend, Frank Fellows, who I later married in 1954. I remember the bandleader Ted Heath performed there. So many happy memories. Lived in Mottingham Village, I was then called Sylvia Street. My father owned a shoe repair shop.
Brian Tutt
This should be of interest, I hope. I attended Roper Street C of E Primary School from 1944 to1947, Head teacher, Mr Hatt and class teacher Miss Sexton. Brian Tutt was in this class. Sadly he contracted Polio in 1947 and was kept alive in an iron lung. I have a class photo dated 1947 and, of course, Brian is in it. I do not have a printer but can send you a copy via our local library if you let me have an email address, dot.brooks@live.co.uk. My maiden name was Dorothy Clare. Best wishes.
The Palace
Until I was 10 years old we lived in Kingsground. From a rear window, one looked across "the bull's field" to the palace. I LOVE it!! At Eltham C of E Primary School we were educated in Eltham's history, NOW I think I know everything there is to know about all of it, from the arrival of the Saxons to William, to his gift of Kent to brother-in-law, Bishop Odo, and Odo's gifting it to Haimo. I remember the restoration from rot and beetle, the Coroboree celebrations in 1953 when, as a Girl Guide, we were allowed to explore. I discovered the "dungeons" in the wall of the moat [4x4x4feet] and how prisoners drowned when the moat flooded,etc..... Best wishes, Dorothy Brooks.
Wellhall Road in The 1960s And 1970s
I remember visiting my Aunty Pat and all my cousins, they lived at the top of Wellhall Road just down from the old pictures opposite them. She had lots of girls, some blond, and one son, David or Michael I think, their dad was a Scotsman. My mum was Sheila Gillespie, she was born in that house and all her sisters, Maureen, Bertha, and Eileen. She went to Gordon School. Their dad was called John Gillespie, Sheila married a man called I believe John Griffin and had two children, a girl called Jean and John the son, does anybody remember them?
HAPPY MEMORIES
I grew up in Eltham but one of my fondest memories was being a member of the backstage team at Eltham Little Theatre. We had a lot of fun backstage especially during the Pantomime season!
I also spent a lot of my childhood at Eltham Baths showing off my diving prowess to my patient parents! My maiden name was Maggs.
Happy days
Childhood Haunt
15 mins walk from my home. Used to play tennis on the courts below this building. Public toilets nearby, as was a circular seating gazebo like benches where my friends and I would gather to talk, laugh and often scratch our names on the wooden seats. Also between the tennis courts and the building was a putting green.

Born in 1933, I have documents stating I was christened in this church. Attended evening service as a late teenager.
Happy hr
