This photo is how I remember Epping. Those cars are where the market was held on Mondays. They even had livestock there. We lived in North Weald and my dad had a car very much like those in the picture. There was a store toward the end of the street (though I don't remember what it sold), but it was run by a Mrs. Musgrove, who was a friend of my mother. My parents lived in North Weald from 1945 until they retired in the late 60s early 70s. There was a bus terminal at the top end of the town and a fish and chip shop on the other side of the road where we used to go after seeing a movie in Leytonstone. Unfortunately, I haven't been back since I emigrated to America in 1961...but maybe one day...

Following up on my previous post, I just remembered the name of the store that Mrs. Musgrove used to work at. It was Cottis. Also we went to the movies in Loughton, not Leytonstone. After so many years, the old brain plays tricks on you. Amazing how much comes back after seeing these wonderful photographs.
