More about this scene

The climax of the High Street is the 1892 Cross Keys pub building in the centre of the photograph. To the right is the tall White Hart, completed in 1902. Today the Locomotive on the left, along with most of the street, has gone. The narrow turning on the right is now the wide Wharfeside Close leading to the pier.

I can remember getting a Birthday card every year with a sailing ship on it and could go to the pictures for free. Such happy and carefree days and so many friends I ...see more
Hi, I am really interested in the history of Erith and find it fascinating the various memories people have of the area, particularly Manor Road. Although I was born in Sidcup, my parents moved to Erith in about 1979 when I was about 12 yrs old. My parents, who people may remember as ' Bill and Rita' bought a corner shop located at 9 manor Road (on the corner of Crescent Road) and ran it up until about 1988. I think that they ...see more
Does anyone remember West Street, Erith in 1948? Did it comprise shops, houses/flats? I was just a baby when I was abandoned in West Street, Erith and can find out very little about my origins. I would love to know the layout of the street if anyone recalls.
