Thoughts Of Eskdale School

A Memory of Eskdale.

I returned to Eskdale this weekend after 60 years. Yes I was there in the very early years and the experience is still fresh (in some things today ) today. It was not a planned visit but, the welcome I got made me feel warm inside. The staff were lovely, the young lady on reception ( from Egremont )
the trainers I spoke to, and of course Doug who spent some time with me and introduced me to 'The Map Room '. I met two young men from British Sugar who had 3 minutes to Get Back ?.
There were ledgers going back to the early 50s listing Photos and memories of all previous groups.
I did not see mine but, then again my memory let me down and I could not remember the exact year I visited. However , when I got home I turned up the group photo but, undated I'm afraid. All the group were listed by name .
My day to day memory is not what it was but, the lake (cold in Jan ) , Duddon Bridge ( jumped off that ) and of course the training ground is still so clear.
Perhaps I did not appreciate at the time but, What a memory.
A belated Thanks

John Irving

john I think I had to have been there in march 56 I live in Bulgaria now but still have house in Yorkshire, i must re visit Eskdale, and the school and look through some of the records, in my respect it was a life altering experience 70 years on it still brings back amazing memories Philip Wells (archaeologist//ex Leeds)
I attended the outward bound centre in nov.1969 E197. A day does not pass remembering the experiences of my adventure in Scott Patrol. Currently I live in Western Australia of which I have for 20 years and will be returning to the uk in April. I hope to visit the centre for first time 47 years. Treasured memories.
