More about this scene

Following the building of St Anne's, Ansdell and Fairhaven were slower to develop, remaining an area of woodland and sandhills. Fortunately Richard Ansdell RA, the world-renowned Victorian painter, chose to build a house, Starr Hills, amongst the sandhills; although his hope was for solitude, he brought fame and expansion to the area to which he gave his name. As at Royal Lytham, the flat, spacious grasslands and sandy hollows were perfect for the development of Fairhaven Golf Links. On St Anne's Old Links, Granny Fisher of Cross Slack Cottages supplied golfers with refreshments. This lady had twins four times!
