Established on 34 acres of land that had previously belonged to the Appleton House estate, Victoria Park opened to the public in 1900. The gates shown here were donated by Widnes Foundry and actually date from 1897.

I am born and bred In Farnworth, I lived at the old Toll house on Bradford Road, near Townleys as he used to be called. I remember going to Farnworth market and when the wakes used to come and set up near the market . Also remember Tognerelles on Market Street. Used to get lovely dandelion and burdock drinks. Many happy days. But it's all changed now and for the worse I think like may towns have
