Fleetwood Ferry
My great-grandfather, Thomas Newton Croft, a member of the family that founded the Fleetwood to Knott End ferry, managed it for the local council from c.1896 to his death in 1915. I am told that my grandmother, Alice, used to do cartwheels to entertain the passengers waiting for the boat to come in. The service was re-privatised a few years ago. Being involved in marine business myself I like to refer to it as "the family shipping line"!

RE: RE: Fleetwood Ferry
My great-great-grandfather, John Joseph Gannon moved in Fleetwood with his family around 1904. They originally came from Dundalk in Ireland. They lived at 50 Bold Street. He was nicknamed "Saint Joseph" and became harbourmaster (he was previously a master tailor). One of his daughters was a nurse and still lived in Fleetwood in 1938. One of his sons-in-law was Patrick McCawley who was a Customs Officer in Fleetwood. I would appreciate any information (and of course photos) about "Saint Joseph" Gannon and his family while they lived in Fleetwood. Thank you Frederic Gannon
