How I Knew Frimley Green

A Memory of Frimley Green.

where I live now since 1968 there used to be farm there was cattle over the hatches . signal box just near the railway at the hatches. 4 sweet shops. Ansell newsagent -Mons-shop -spar shop- spare parts shop used to be sweetshop.next to small car park we use to have night club with large sofas. new years eve Dr Bartlett with his bagpipes out on the green. Ensoll lighting shop was there for some time and you manage to get just about anything. Bowling green farm long drive before Henley drive . at Frimley green junior school we use to have our school dinners in village hall . bottle of fresh milk every morning the hall still stands used for as play group .taken photo recently .
paddle your feet in the stream at the hatches walk to Farnborough without any worries and arrive back late .Mons sweetshop was my favourite used to love visiting seeing all fancy sweets on show. sadly the shop is almost demolished
I had one friend her name was Debbie . she lived in the hatches cottage with her gran.how many knew Debbie. she was connected with some people of Methodist church Mrs potter.
all our family went to Robert Haining school in mychett surrey. our home is at the back of the hatches . the railway line is still running ascot to Frimley line. we now have family of foxes-some deer visit an occasionally badger update the old railway bridge that stood for over 100 years behind waste ground has now been replaced with new bridge.

Our Mum used to take us over the Hatches to picnic and to catch tadpoles. She used to collect Rose Hips to make Rose hip syrup.There were also great Blackberry bushes back then and she would make jam and Blackberry and Apple pie.This would have been late 50's. Julia Hayward
