Early 1960s in Camberley

I remember the highlight of the week was Saturday night at the Agincourt. A guy called Bob Potter was running the entertainment there. The clothes shop called Esquire was the "in" place for the fashion of the day. Another popular place was the A30 roadhouse at Blackwater. It was very popular with bikers. Does anyone remember the lady who used to walk along the London Road pushing a pram and surrounded by dogs? She was named Camberley Kate. Happy days. I am now living in a beautiful part of the country, Dorset, but I have happy memories of my teenage years in Camberley.

RE: RE: Early 1960s in Camberley

I remember Camberley Kate with her wooden pram and hoards of scruffy but happy band of dogs. We lived in Alphington Avenue. My daughters, Rachel and Charlotte went to Lakeside. Rachel has never forgiven us for moving to Lymington, New Forest - the schooling here was awful -,the area being a culture shock. I remember the lakes on our estate and ice skating during the freezing winters we seemed to have - that the children loved. We use to visit Bob Potter's club, seeing Danny la Rue, The Baron Knights and many other stars in the seventies. One night the club burnt down. We lived in Frimley from1973 to 1983. l so wish we had stayed there for all of us, for many reasons. Very central, easy access to London where l worked.
