I think I must have talked to about three ex-Castle School kids since I wrote my memories about the the school. It was opened by an Act of Government during the Second World War in 1942. Situated to the west of Wolsingham on the A689, Frosterley used to be called Forest Lea. For centuries it was the source of Frosterley marble, a fossil-rich crystalline limestone noted for the way it polishes up, and much sought after for church ornamentation.
