Brook Family
I visited Goole in September 2008 in search of information on the families of Bernard Knowles Brook and his son Matthew Moorhouse Brook, who was my grandfather. I obtained important but tragic news about Bernard and his accidental drowning at Keadby in July 1876. I was unable to find out much about Matthew after the birth of my mother and uncle in Goole in the early 1900s.
I should like to know what happened to Matthew after 1905. My grandmother and my mother and uncle must have moved to Cheshire soon after then, where the children went to school in Chester before eventually working at Port Sunlight.
Any news on Matthew and his fate would be most welcome.

RE: RE: Brook Family
I now know that Matthew Moorhouse Brook survived the First World War and was First Officer on cargo vessels on the Atlantic in 1919, according to Ellis Island records. One vessel was the "War Perch".
I do not know what happened to him after then.

RE: RE: Brook Family
I am looking into my mother's family and her Great Grandfather was also Bernard Knowles Brook. born 1843 Castleford, York - but resided in Goole.
My Mother's mother was
Jennie Hedley ( married Harold Hankins 21st May 1907)
Her mother was
Mary Jane Brook 1867 ( married William Hedley 7th Oct 1886)
Sister Lydia 1869 died Goole 1949 Burton Agnes Hall Gatehouse.
Brother George 1870 died in boating accident 9th July 1876.
Sister Sophia 1874
Brother Matthew Moorhouse 1875-
Sister Georgiana Bernard Knowles Brook 1878 - possibly died in infancy as not recorded on the 1881 census with her mother , she would have been 4/5 years old but could have lived with a relative of Bernard Knowles. I haven't checked death records yet.
Happy relative hunting.
Her father was
Bernard Knowles Brook ( married Jane Smith 7th May 1866)
His father was George Brook(s) married to Mary.

RE: RE: Brook Family
I was interested to read Christine Clucas's post. I do not know about the events in the lives of Bernard Brook's daughters, and still await news of his son Matthew Moorhouse Brook beyond 1919 when he was on cargo ships on the Atlantic. His wife and my mother and uncle moved to Port Sunlight in Cheshire. My mother married there and I was born there. My family then moved to London and many other parts of the UK. I now live in Australia.
