Building Grays.
A Memory of Grays.
Oh my goodness, whata wonderful collection. I grew up in Grays lfrom 1945 to 1961. In most of these pictures, there are buildings my great grandfather built. The library for example and next to it a row of shops. All built by H. J. Carter. Before they were shops, they were homes. The one next door to the library was no. 15. My father, Horace Carter grew up there. If you look on the corner of the Baptist church further up Orset Road, you will see a stone in the building with his name on it. The police station was his work, too. His pride and joy however, was Palmers Boys School, now gone. All the generations of Carters attended there. My sister, Angela attended the girls school. However, for some reason, I was a convent girl; and loved it. Thank you for sharing these.

I have been trying to find a very good friend, her name was CHRISTINE BLACKMAN, her Dad, Alan, ran the garage a few doors down from our shop and Christine worked in the office. Her Dad also used to do stock car racing. If any one knows her whereabouts, I would love to reconnect with her and catch up on old times. I believe she lived in Chadwell Heath.
