Orsett Road .. Fire Station And Jack Going !

A Memory of Grays.

What a difficult thing it is to write down all you want to! So much in our memories ...
I am the curator of the Essex Fire Museum which is based at Grays fire station in Hogg Lane. I was born in Grays in June 1952 and lived at 41 Lucas Road with mum Violet, dad Frank and brother Colin not forgetting sister Doreen. In July 1976 I joined the Essex County Fire Brigade and served as a fireman at Hogg Lane for 30 years, retiring in November 2006 to run the museum. When I was 13 I spent quite a few months working for Jack Going on his fish stall in the market, his wife ran a similar stall in the other part of the market. I can see Jack now, with his limp and constant huge smile; his wife was quite deaf! Can anyone tell me where Jack is buried? I would love to pay my respects to this lovely man. My wife Gill, who moved to Grays from Lyndhurst, Hampshire in November 1967 is trying to remember the name of a shop which stood between EV Saxtons and Ticehursts .... I hope that there is someone out there (of a similar age!) who can give us an answer ... Thank you
