RE: RE: My Roots

Hello, I also have discovered that my family, on my late mother's side come from Great Waltham. The surname is Portway and they seem to have been around this area since the early 1800s. According to Census records most of the families were employed in agriculture and lived at Broads Green, Pleshey, High Houses and Rolphy Green.
I would appreciate any information on this family, as I am going to visit the area in the near future.

RE: RE: My Roots

Hi
I also have Portway on my mother's side from Great Waltham. I am looking for connection with Abraham Portway born c. 1790/3 Gt Waltham, married Elizabeth Jiggons (Jiggins, etc) from Felsted in 1813. He died 1869. Included in their offspring are William born 1818 Gt Waltham, and George born 1820 Gt Waltham.
Any information would be gladly received!

Margaret
