My Dad

My dad was born in Hackney, London in 1922. Named Arthur Lawrence Gibbs, son of William Arthur Gibbs. My grandad came to Australia in 1925 with my grandma and with 3 or 4 children pioneed a farm in Northcliffe in Western Australia. I myself have been to England but only once in my life(I was born in 1953). My son and my daughter have both visited the fair country and spent a lot of time there and have been to the old Hackney. I have not been there, and if anyone can help me with any memories or stories I would be forever grateful. Raymond John Gibbs.  Your's in trust, take care.

RE: My Dad

Hi Raymond, my name is John Bates and I was reading your comments on Hackney, London. My mum and dad lived in Hackney with their parents in a big house in Cadogan Terrace, number 128, next door to the Mitford Arms pub. I was born there in 1953 before moving to Essex, my grandparents lived there up until I was about 10 and I have fond memories of going into London to visit them, the house was right opposite Victoria Park and I spent many hours in the park whilst visiting them. My mum and dad moved into the house in 1934 from Jodrell Road, my dad used to be a trolley bus driver in the area. Both my mum and dad were born in 1924.
The reason I am writing this to you is that my mum obviously has lots of memories from those days so at Christmas I bought her a book called 'Hackney Memories' by Alan Wilson, it's from Sutton Publishing. She loves it, there are so many things in it that she can remember from that area so if you want memories and stories I can recommend it.
I hope you find what you're looking for.
Best wishes... John .
PS, just had to edit this to say I don't know where the heading of Derbyshire came from, I didn't put that????
