RE: RE: THE HIGH STREET

My mum Maureen Hughes used to be the crossing lady (lollipop lady), for many years seeing children across the road (London Road) on their way to either Fawbert and Barnards or Mark Hall school. She spent many hours standing under the canopy of Welfords Sweet shop holding her "Lollipop." I can also remember when the International store was on the opposite corner (I think it later became Winches). The store then moved down to the middle of the high street on the same side as Welfords.
