School Lane & The Grange School

School Lane c1955

I was born at 60 School lane & would like to know what was on the land prior to our house which I think was built in the early thirties.
I attended the Grange School on Bradburns Lane. gray & green uniforms, Mrs. Perry head teacher with Mrs. Atherton, Miss Taylor, Miss Western. Although the school continues for now up to 18 year olds, we left at 11, and there used to be a huge beech tree with a rope ladder which I fell from & rhododendrons we used to play in.
I used to be friendly with the family at Hartford Hall before it became a hotel.
Does anyone remember them ?

RE: RE: School Lane & The Grange School

I too went to the Grange School! I would love to know who posted the previous comment, because I remember all of those teachers, as well as Miss Hatton, my first teacher when I was 5. I remember the beech tree, (we used to eat the beech nuts from it). I remember the rhododendrons, which seemed huge at that time, at least big enough to hide in. I was there between 1956 and 1960.
I don't remember the family who used to live at Hartford Hall, but I do remember the family who lived in a very large house called "The Riddings" which was later pulled down to make Riddings Lane (I think). That family was the Passeys.
