My Uncle Charles and my father James Scott  were born at Nether Hall in the early 1900's. The family was in service to Sir Henry Longman. The main family residence was Shendish House in Apsley,Hertfordshire where my grandfather,William Scott was coachman and head of the stables.  All the horses owned by the Longmans were given a name beginning with L.  My own grandaughter has a wooden rocking horse, named Larkspur, after my father's favourite mare.

RE: RE: Birthplace.

Dear Barbara,
I just returned to the US from Scotland where I had flowers prepared at Canongate Kirk in memory of Lady Mary Hay who married her coachman, William Scott and was disowned for marrying beneath her status. They lived at Netherhall. I suspect that your grandfather was the son of William and Mary. I descend from the daughter Elizabeth. They also had a son James and a son Thomas.

Very likely that we are relatives and have that same warm feeling of our ancestors. I hope I shall hear from you. I may be back in Scotland to finish my search for family heritage sites in the summer. William Hay Esq. is the name of Mary Hay's father. My son and I have come close to finding where he lived which is Coldingham Lawfield TD14 5
