More about this scene

The 1920s were also when car dealerships were established at various locations throughout the town. Coventry Motor Company (later Caffyns) was the most centrally situated in the Broadway, whilst Dinnages were and still are in Sussex Road. Caffyns moved in the 1980s, and the Broadway site is now a terrace of shops with offices above. The Post Office's Travels The post office in Haywards Heath has had a nomadic past. Its first home in 1861 was a small room (reputedly just 8 feet by 8 feet in area!) in Muster House, fronting on to Muster Green. It then moved along Muster Green to The Yews on the corner of Muster Green and Boltro Road. From there, a move into Boltro Road beckoned, especially as Thomas Bannister paid for the building, and Jesse Finch built it in just six weeks! Then in 1915 it moved across the road to larger premises, where it stayed until the early 1980s. Then it moved into the Orchards shopping centre, off South Road, its current site. During this time, a series of sub-post offices were established throughout the town. Today, these sub-post offices are facing an uncertain future owing to the national need to streamline the business.

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

This is taken from outside the Star and shows (as does H252583) the system that prevailed before the Star became not just a pub but a roundabout eg things could turn right down the Broadway and Muster Green North was still a through road. The 36 bus is going to East Grinstead (although the 30 only went to Chelwood Common to connect with another bus).
